Weekly Net

For all those interested, a radio meet-up, also known as a “net” is held each Thursday at 7:30pm.  This will help new users become familiar with their radios and any radio-use protocols.

Radio Equipment Recommendation

In conjunction with Ward and Stake emergency communications plans, the Stake Emergency Communications group are recommending the BaoFeng model UV82 dual band radios.  The radios cover both GMRS/FRS, and HAM bands, are easy to use, and program.  The Stake Emergency Plan will employ the FRS frequencies for emergency communications with the Wards.

Each Ward has been assigned a primary channel (see above) for use during an emergency.  Please be aware that FRS channels do not require licensing.  However, the FCC does require licensing for transmitting on the GMRS and HAM frequencies.  Monitoring of those frequencies does not require licensing.

We have a standard program for radio channels/frequencies to ensure ease of use when transmitting and monitoring.  Please contact your ward Emergency Communications Specialists for programming guidance.

Amazon.com is offering both a dual battery, single radio unit for $34.39, and a dual radio, single battery (for each radio) combination for $59.99.
