Solar ovens have been touted for many years as a great solution for the problem of cooking when gas and electricity become unavailable. However, if you’ve ever actually built a solar oven, you probably discovered, as did I, that the food took a very long time to cook and didn’t taste nearly as good as you expected.
In reality, it takes nearly ideal conditions and a lot of practice to get a decent meal out of a solar oven.
Fortunately, a Brigham Young University professor has come up with a better solution: the solar funnel.
